2. Installation
To install the Klipsch CDT-5800-C II In-Ceiling Speaker, you
will need the Klipsch IK-800-C installation kit (sold separately).
The installation kit includes a mud ring breakaway wire tie,
color-coded brackets, and perforated metal wings that easily fasten
to the studs via screws, staples, or nails.
For fire-rated speaker enclosures, you can use the Klipsch
ME-800-C (sold separately) to meet local building codes and/or
reduce sound transfer to adjoining rooms.
3. Speaker Positioning
The CDT-5800-C II features Controlled Dispersion Technology
(CDT), which allows you to direct both high and low frequencies
towards the listening area. The 8-inch Cerametallic woofer can
rotate a full 360° and then shift 15° in any direction, while the
1-inch Titanium Tweeter with symmetrical Tractrix Horn provides
accurate sound direction.
4. Connecting the Speaker
Use high-quality speaker wire to connect the Klipsch CDT-5800-C
II In-Ceiling Speaker to your amplifier or receiver. Make sure to
connect the positive (+) terminal on the speaker to the positive
(+) terminal on the amplifier, and the negative (-) terminal on the
speaker to the negative (-) terminal on the amplifier.
5. Treble and Midbass Attenuation Switches
The CDT-5800-C II features treble and midbass attenuation
switches that allow you to adjust the sound according to your
preferences. You can set the switches to -3dB, 0dB, or +3dB to
fine-tune the speaker's performance.
6. Troubleshooting
- No sound: Check that the speaker wire connections are
secure and that the amplifier or receiver is turned on and set to
the correct input.
- Distorted sound: Ensure that the speaker wires are not
damaged or frayed, and that the amplifier or receiver's volume is
not set too high.
- Uneven sound: Adjust the treble and midbass attenuation
switches to achieve a balanced sound.
7. Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Can these speakers be used in a bathroom or other
high-moisture areas?
A: The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II In-Ceiling Speakers are not
specifically designed for wet environments. For a more suitable
option, consider the Polk RC80i, which is advertised for use in wet
environments.
- Q: Are these speakers suitable for Dolby Atmos
setups?
A: Yes, the Klipsch CDT-5800-C II In-Ceiling Speakers work well as
Atmos speakers, adding a new dimension to movies with Atmos
encoding.
- Q: What is the warranty on these speakers?
A: The warranty on the Klipsch CDT-5800-C II In-Ceiling Speakers
may vary depending on the seller. It is essential to purchase from
an authorized Klipsch dealer to ensure a valid warranty.
FAQ [continued]
Product FAQ:
Q: Did anyone order these speakers for $250.00? They are a lot more
from an authorized dealer want to make sure they are legit!
Thanks
A: They might be legit, but good luck returning them if something
goes wrong. Klipsch won't warranty items from unauthorized
dealers.
Q: Does it include mounting hardware?
A: Yes. It mounts to drywall very simply. You'll need a
Philips-head screwdriver (preferably an electric) to tighten them
to the drywall in your ceiling. These're amazing speakers.
Enjoy!
Q: Anyone compared these side-by-side to the Klipsch slightly
smaller (& cheaper) 5850's??
A: 5650 can not handle the same amount of power and can not play
the bass frequencies that the 5800 does
Q: Would you recommend using a cover for ceiling speakers in a
vaulted ceiling with blown insulation ?
A: Yes, me 800c....
Q: Is the cdt-5800 a speaker that is compatible with the Sonos amp?
I would like to get as much out of my amp as possible
A: That amp is rated at 125 W per channel at 8 Ohms or 200W per
channel at 4 Ohms. The CDT-5650-C II has a 50 Watt continuous power
rating at 8 Ohms nominal with a 200 Watt peak. Our speakers can run
efficiently off of 80% of their minimum power rating so at least we
would recommend 40 Watts per channel at 8 Ohms for this model. We
also don’t recommend going over halfway to the peak power on our
speakers so the maximum recommended would be 100 Watts per channel
at 8 Ohms.
Q: Can you wire together to add 6 or 8 speakers to main speaker
output on amp? Generally, you would add just 2.
A: Generally, you would wire each speaker to its own dedicated
amplifier channel. It is possible to run multiple speakers on one
channel if they are wired in series/parallel to maintain the proper
impedance if you have a very powerful amplifier.
Q: Can these speakers be mounted in a bathroom? They will be
mounted in the ceiling in the same room as there is a shower so
there is some moisture.
A: As long as they are not mounted directly above the shower, they
will be fine. I have mine mounted in an overhang outside.
Q: What would be a good amp to power 12 of these in a 6 stereo zone
whole house audio setup?
A: We don't really recommend brand/models, but hope this helps...
Find one with a low THD number and features you need. The
CDT-5800-C II model has a 50 Watt continuous power rating at 8 Ohms
nominal with a 200 Watt peak. Our speakers can run efficiently off
of 80% of their minimum power rating so at least we would recommend
40 Watts per channel at 8 Ohms for this model. We also don’t
recommend going over halfway to the peak power on our speakers so
the maximum recommended would be 100 Watts per channel at 8
Ohms.
Q: What is the difference between Klipsch cdt-5800 c ii, Klipsch
pro 4800 c and the Klipsch pro 4803-c?
A: The main differences include the 5800's directional,
cerametallic woofer versus the 4800's non-directional, fiber
woofer. The CDT capabilities of the 5800 make it easier to direct
where you want the sound to be heard at every level. They are
amazing. I'm sure the 4800 is a decent speaker, but in my
experience, the 5800's woofer is well worth the difference in
price. I still don't own these (some day fingers crossed). I just
installed them all the time ... and still never a complaint.
Q: Can I use these speakers for outdoor?
A: Klipsch does not recommend use outdoors.
Q: Polk RC80i verses Klipsch CDT-5800-C II
A: While both speakers are good, the Klipsch CDT-5800-C II has a
rotating woofer assembly and a -3dB switch for woofer and tweeter
independently. Both have 360deg adjustable tweeters. The Klipsch
also has a very nice flush magnetic grill, whereas the Polk has the
traditional internal circumference friction fit. The Polks can be
tinny at highs and more muddy at lows and mids, while the Klipschs
can almost be described as lacking fullness. There's something I
can't quite put my finger on with them aside from the need for an
additional subwoofer in the room to compensate for lack of
low-frequency propagation.
