Product review summary
This page is intentionally secondary to the manual page and exists to provide review-oriented context.
The Optoma HD29Darbee 1080p 3200 Lumens 3D DLP Home Theater Projector is a fantastic projector with outstanding picture quality. It has enough options to adjust the picture to your environment and personal liking, and there are no noticeable rainbow effects. The black is not totally black but this is not an issue in a pitch-black media room. The quality of 3D material with Optoma's own ZD302 3D-glasses is spectacular, making it a projector that comes highly recommended.
However, the use of the remote, the inability of the projector to automatically switch to and from 3D mode, and the noise level of the fan in some of the brighter screen modes are some of the flaws that impact the overall movie night experience. The menu of the projector and use of the remote is pretty much straightforward, but some of the main functions could have been easier to switch to. The programming of user-specific settings is also limited. The projector does not automatically detect 3D content, and the user has to select the 3D mode every time manually. The projector fan becomes quite noticeable in some of the brighter modes, and the projector cannot be turned on immediately after it has been turned off.
Pros:
- Outstanding picture quality
- Enough options to adjust the picture
- No noticeable rainbow effects
- Spectacular 3D quality with Optoma's own ZD302 3D-glasses
Cons:
- Remote control is not user-friendly
- Projector doesn't automatically switch to and from 3D mode
- Noise level of the fan in some of the brighter screen modes is noticeable
- Programming of user-specific settings is limited
- Projector cannot be turned on immediately after it has been turned off
Overall, the Optoma HD29Darbee is a great projector for its price. It has a few flaws, but they are not mission-critical and do not affect the overall movie night experience. If you are looking for a projector with outstanding picture quality and 3D capabilities, this is definitely a product to consider.
