A: 4 wires? Best you can do is hook up Red, Green, Common, them either; White (heat) or Yellow (AC). Hook-up which ever you need for that months weather. Then order the 5 or 8 wire cable to replace it, 8 wires would make it more future proof if you get a new HVAC system or new thermostat in 10 years. But then you can hook up all the correct wires when you replace the cable. It shouldn't be hard to replace, it's just a low voltage wire in the wall, most likely in a hallway above the HVAC unit. Everything will work now, and give you time to replace it a few weeks later.

Q: Does this smart thermostat have a lock setting? I have annoying people that like to mess with the thermostat.
A: Unfortunately, Nest Thermostat (2020) doesn't have a lock feature unlike previous Nest thermostat models.

A: There's only one thermostat for a home. However, Nest does sell a sensor unit that connects with the Nest thermostat. With this you can use the sensor for the main temperature of your house. Whatever temperature you set on the sensor will be the temperature the thermostat heats up or cools down to.
